Passion for Beauty... through shoes

I could not remember the time when my love for shoes began. My mother was a shoe-lover, and during those times when I was more fond of Barbie dolls than glittery shoes, I could not understand why Mama kept on buying shoes... why she had stacks of shoeboxes. Because they were so many, she had to write a description or two on the box so she would know what shoebox she needed everytime she had to go out. I thought to myself that you actually need only one pair or two pairs at the most to get you to tread down the grounds of this world. But I was wrong. So wrong.

Carrie Bradshaw had an ultimate passion for shoes. She spent around $400-$800 on each pair she bought. Such extravagance, especially for a writer. But no matter how impossible it may have seemed for her to splurge on shoes that much, her shoe-loving character proved something to us women. That we have all the right to express ourselves through beautiful and fabulous things. That it is alright to make ourselves feel sexy and wonderful. That it is a great feeling to enjoy the small pleasures of life by spending on ourselves. We may not have the leisure to spend $400 just to make this possible, but we do have the privilege to beautify ourselves not just once in a while, but all the time. If we have the extravagant budget, then it would not be difficult for us to make this into a reality. But for us who have limited bank accounts plus responsibilities and priorities, I believe that we still have all the possibilities to make ourselves the beautiful women that we were created to be.

For me, one way of defining beauty for myself is being intricate with the things I wear, especially shoes. Shoes, I believe, go beyond its function as a feet-protector. They reveal so much of the character of the wearer. I profoundly believe in this. For some strange reason, one look at the person's shoes, I already have a glimpse of what the person is like. It may sound so shallow, but for me it isn't. Most of the time, that glimpse seems to be accurate. You should try it one time.

And maybe this is one reason why I have a certain passion for shoes. I do not buy just any kind of shoe, I buy that which could define me. That which could reveal the beauty in me. I sometimes spend more than my budget on a pair, although most of the time I spend even as little as P150 for, let's say, a pair of flip-flops that I feel would help me define the beautiful me. Of course, shoes can never be the sole basis for one's beauty. There are so many other factors to consider when it comes to beauty. But at least focusing on one is a big step to making yourself the beautiful person that you are.

So what is my point? We all have our own manner of manifesting how fabulous and gorgeous we can be. The manner may be worth $400, it could only be worth P150. It doesn't matter. What matters is our effort of finding the beautiful things for our beautiful selves.
